As a working mom I often take the time to consider how my professional career is progressing. For most of us the work landscape has changed significantly post 2020. We now communicate more via video calls, may work in hybrid or even full-time remote work environments. 2022 marked a year of change for me. I pivoted in my professional career and accepted a new role moving laterally in my organization. As my communication with varying departments increased, I found most I communicated with had a professional headshot or avatar for video calls and instant messaging and it created a sense of connection. It was always nice to look up the organization chart and find a person’s business photograph and then know who to expect to look for on executive video calls. If the idea of getting a professional headshot has crossed your mind, read along for some benefits of committing to one.
Connection, Trust and Collaboration
You will find that people like to get an idea of who they are working with. And including your a bio/photograph will invite others to want to work with you. If you’re not working in an office, this is even more essential as it is likely the only way others will be able to connect with an image of you.
Confidence
A photograph can speak a thousand words. Your business headshot should relay confidence in the job you are performing.
Beneficial during Job Search/Interview Process
Investing in a headshot can go a long way. You can use this image in other job search sites or networking groups such as Linked In.
Find a Photographer
Look for a professional photography studio or hire a photographer if you can. I visited a local JCPenney Studio. I was able to secure an appointment with them 3 days in advance by visiting their website. The cost of one digital image resulted in about $80 which was well worth it in my opinion. They ensured the lighting and positioning was optimal. They took about 9 images and helped me in selecting the best choice. Within 3 hours or so I had my digital image available via Shutterfly. I highly recommend their services.
If you have been considering getting a professional headshot, this is your sign. Any working woman in a mid-level career or higher position should consider it in today’s new work life.
