I have been reflecting more frequently on the need to take in your surroundings and make use of what you have around you. This is likely why you may have noticed that it’s been a good minute since I last published a post both here and on Instagram. I promise I’ll be posting more, I just wanted to take some time to craft worthwhile content for all you Sun Queens that take the time out of your day to pay me a visit. Living that #sunkissedlife really translates into enjoying each day to it’s fullest and with intention.
So you don’t have big plans for the day, what can you do at home that results in a little self-care and indulgence?
This is me at approximately 3 to 4 months into my pregnancy. Poolside cocktails definitely weren’t an option I wasn’t really into the whole mocktail movement. But you know what sounded good to me, a good read, catching some rays and indulging in a good poolside snack (also known as a refreshing paleta in Spanish).
So if you’re wondering what makes for a good pool day or even just a nice day outdoors to catch some vitamin D here are my top tips.
Just get outdoors.
It seems simple right, but sometimes we overthink self-care and get so bogged down by the idea that we don’t take action. If you have a patio, make use of it! You don’t necessarily need a pool for this.
Get your poolside outfit ready!
If live with a pool amenity than you want to plan for a nice poolside lounge outfit. Trust me, it makes you feel sooo good! The dress I’m wearing is from Target , tassel earnings are from Forever 21. Sunnies were an awesome Marshalls find. All a few years old but you can find similar styles online. Again, I’m pregnant in this picture and the dress is non-maternity.
Pack a poolside bag.
Here you will want to include your magazine of choice or a good book. Don’t overdo it though! You don’t want to stress yourself out by giving yourself too much to do. Remember you want to be able to take in the environment take a break to enjoy the sun and it’s beauty. You will also want to grab some SPF or suntan lotion if you want to build a tan. While I’m all about building a tan, I regularly use Neutrogena SPF for my face and neck (100SPF or higher), Sun Bum SPF for my upper body and Hawaiian Tropics tanning lotion for my legs. This works well for me particularly in the beginning of Spring when my legs have that post-winter pasty look.
Food and drinks.
We can’t forget that. If you’re anything like me, I like to plan for blocks of leisure time. So before I head outside, I know how much time I’ll be spending and what I need to get me by so that I ‘m not walking in and out of the house. Gotta keep a tidy home ya know? Some ideas, bite size veggies or fruit, H20, or you can just opt for a frozen snack like I did. My paletas from Helados Mexico never fail me! You don’t have to go to a Mexican specialty store to find them. Walmart carries them and I think even Costco does too at times! If all else fails there’s always Instacart.
We are only a few weeks away from summer here in the U.S. so start your poolside planning ideas and feel free to share anyways you are living that #sunkissedlife.
