Welcome back to another sunkissed outing! This time we headed out to lovely Los Angeles on a Saturday to visit the Los Angeles Zoo. It’s no surprise to you all that I am a working mama (hard-working and inside and outside the home) and love to plan for fun weekends with my little family. I’ll walk you through how we planned for it and what made it a successful trip.
We arrived to the park right at opening hour. You’ll want to visit their website to look up operating hours and pricing for tickets. The commute from Orange County to LA on a Saturday morning was a breeze (unlike the commute back home). So we were pleased to know we arrived right around opening time.
Entering the park was super easy, we had pre-purchased our tickets online and pretty much just had to show our tickets to the gate keeper.
I always like to pack things that will make my outings easier. Even though hubs was with us, along with another family, I like to plan for the unanticipated. My tot isn’t fully potty trained as she despises public restrooms, the loud flushing noise and hand dryers really bother her. So I was a little hesitant to take her portable potty, but boy did it help! I’ll link a picture of it below. She was able to use it in the car before we got out and then once in the park in the ladies restroom. This potty is a god-send and I wish I would have known about it months ago.
So back to what we packed.
- Stroller
- Portable Stroller Fan
- Cooling Towels
- Water Bottles
- Bento Box Tray with lunch meat, cheese, fruit and vegetables for Mila
- Milk Carton
- Veggie Chip Snacks and fruit and veggie smoothie puree for Mila
- Snacks for us adults
- Hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes
- Portable collapsible potty (Mila)
We had planned to leave the park for lunch but got so caught up in looking at exhibits that we took a break located next to some benches under a shady spot. We all had a chance to eat our snacks and Mila ended up eating her back up emergency food AKA bento box. The snacks powered us through and the food options at the Zoo really didn’t look appetizing so us adults just powered through.
As for the zoo, be ready to do lots of walking! Highly recommend dressing in layers because once the sun comes out, it can get warm fast. Also recommend wearing sunblock since the LA sunshine rays can be pretty sneaky and intense.
The children’s zoo, was unfortunately closed when we visited and that was a highlight that I was looking forward to since Mila is still under 3 and would appreciate it. She did catch sight of the chickens and goat and she was happy to be able to see them from a distance.
All the exhibits were fantastic, some of the more popular ones get crowded so plan for that if you have a stroller since it can be a little more difficult to navigate. A tip here is to look at the map online and determine which animals are a must for you. Here’s a quick glimpse of some of the animals were were able to see up close.
Here’s a reminder to plan for your weekends, get out there and catch some sunshine.
xoxo,
the Sun Queen
