Prior to 2020 I would have drafted a gift giving guide that included hot-style picks or smart gifts for any woman. Fast forward to 2019, the year I became a mommy, and my gift giving suggestions are surprisingly low or no-cost. If you’re a gal, feel free to forward this on to your better half or if you’re a gent visiting my page, read on.
1. Scheduled work-out session.
Ummmm. Need I say more? Mommy’s often feel guilty leaving their home to invest in some (much-needed) “me time”. It’s happened to me…REPEATEDLY. I often have found encouragement through instagram accounts like @nickyschamderer_fit (she’s inspo but REAL) but the best encouragement has come from my spouse when he says things like, “Leave the house and work out for as long as you’d like. I’ve got the baby. Just tell me what you need to feel okay so you enjoy your time away”. Seriously. The best gift ever. This happened to me just post Valentines Day. Us ladies don’t talk much about the guilt we feel. We’d rather just suck it up and sacrifice a gym sesh instead of talking about it. So this no-cost gift means the world.
2. Simple home-cooked date night meal.
Okayyy. So this one is one for the gents. If you’re intentions are to help out with dinner and turn it into something romantic, cool! Kudos to you. But puhlease, make it simple. I don’t know about you, but I can see my kitchen from our dining nook and the last thing I want to see is a dirty kitchen. Again, for Valentines this year the hubs came through with a cooked meal at home. As a new (working) mom, the last thing I wanted to do was leave my baby. I wanted her to be a part of our first Valentines. So hubs got down on his Traeger Grill and cooked up some delectable New York Rib Steaks with steamed veggies and a side of mashed taters. The meal was not low-cost but it’s definitely a high quality meal. I need to also say that he’s been using some seasonings that are simply superb you can find them on IG @meatchurch . Seasonings are game changers.
3. Craft up a signature cocktail.
So if you follow me you know I love beer, wine and cocktails. As a working momma I look forward to these little things. But when the hubs takes the time to sort through our barcart to come up with a concoction as seen on Vanderpump Rules, well you know it’s going to be a good thang.
4. Outing that involves nature.
A walk in the park. A hike. A stroll in the sandy beach. This Cali girl is HERE FOR IT. Talk about low cost. Just a little thought and this can incorporate le bebe if a sitter is not available. Actually, all these pre-mentioned suggestions are baby friendly.
5. Tackle a home project or help de-clutter.
Kon Mari anyone? I was a fan of the method before it became a thing. Particularly now as a new mom, I constantly seek ways to simplify life. Less clutter means less cleaning. Let’s face it, my type of personality doesn’t hire help. I AM THE HELP. And glad to be. But just having your other half embrace the cause (even if it’s in small steps) is so significant.
Well, there you have it peeps. I’ve always promised that my blog will not only promote one aspect but encompass life from the perspective of a woman or that of a working mom. I hope you’ve taken something from this post, remember it’s not just Valentines Day, it can be birthdays , anniversary’s or our beloved Christmas holidays where we can press pause and reflect.
But don’t fret. Us ladies, we still love gifts so feel free to cycle in those well-thought gifts every now and then.
xoxo,
The Sun Queen
