Knott’s Merry Farm: Parent’s Guide & Helpful Tips
Planning Tips for Families Visiting with Kids
If you’re looking for a magical Southern California holiday experience that feels festive but still family-friendly, Knott’s Merry Farm at Knott’s Berry Farm is one of the best seasonal theme park events to visit with kids.
Every year during the holiday season, the park transforms into a winter celebration filled with Christmas decorations, festive treats, seasonal entertainment, and family photo opportunities. If you’re planning a day visit with children, a little preparation goes a long way in making the experience stress-free.
We recently visited with our daughter and had such a fun time exploring the park’s holiday decorations, eating seasonal food, and enjoying the festive atmosphere.
Although we are Disney Magic Key Holders, we also have an annual pass to Knott’s Berry Farm which gives us access to all the Knott’s Berry Farm seasonal events like Knott’s Scary Farm, Camp Spooky, The Boysenberry Festival and Knott’s Merry Farm.
Knott’s Merry Farm is a wonderful add-on experience for families visiting the area for a Disneyland Resort vacation. This makes for a perfect day trip or day experience!
Here are some helpful tips parents should know before visiting Knott’s Merry Farm with kids.
Visit Early if You’re Going on the Weekend
One of the best things parents should know about visiting Knott’s Merry Farm is that timing matters.
If you plan to visit on a weekend, try to arrive as early as possible after the park opens.
The later you arrive, the larger the crowds become, especially during peak holiday weeks in November and December.
Arriving early helps you:
- Avoid long ride wait times
- Take photos before areas get crowded
- Enjoy popular attractions with shorter lines
- Secure seating for shows or dining
By mid-afternoon, the park typically becomes much busier, especially around popular areas like Ghost Town.
Starting your day early allows families to maximize ride time before the evening holiday rush begins.
Visit Camp Snoopy First if You Have Younger Kids
If you’re visiting with little ones, your first stop should be Camp Snoopy.
This area of the park is designed specifically for younger children and features rides and attractions that are perfect for kids.

During Knott’s Merry Farm, Camp Snoopy also becomes one of the most festive areas in the park, with holiday decorations, themed characters, and seasonal entertainment.
Visiting early in the day helps you:
- Avoid long ride lines
- Meet characters sooner
- Take photos while the area is quieter
- Avoid long lines at popular food places like Ghost Town Bakery
For families with younger kids, starting here helps set the tone for a relaxed and fun day before exploring the rest of the park. I also love Camp Snoopy because kids can wait in line for rides on their own (if they are old enough, around 7 years old) and parents can supervise from a distance. It gives kids a feeling of complete freedom, even if parents are around waiting for them.
Holiday Decor and Photo Opportunities
One of the best parts of visiting Knott’s Merry Farm is simply walking around and enjoying the holiday decorations and festive atmosphere.
There are many beautiful places around the park where families can stop for photos.
Some of the best holiday photo spots include:
Ghost Town
During the holiday season, Ghost Town becomes a winter wonderland.
The area is decorated with:
- Christmas garlands
- Holiday lights
- Seasonal displays
- Festive storefront decorations
It’s one of the most charming places in the park and perfect for family photos.
Camp Snoopy
Another great spot for photos is Camp Snoopy, especially if you’re visiting with younger kids.
You’ll find:
- Snoopy-themed decorations
- Colorful holiday displays
- Festive character photo opportunities

If you’re planning to include photos in your blog post (which is great for SEO), these areas provide beautiful and recognizable visuals readers will enjoy.
Holiday Food Worth Trying
Trying seasonal treats is one of the highlights of visiting Knott’s Merry Farm.
Throughout the park you’ll find special holiday food and drinks, many of which are only available during the event.

One place our family enjoyed eating was Coasters Drive-In.
This quick-service restaurant is a convenient option for families looking for something filling and kid-friendly.
Some menu items we liked included:
- Jalapeño Popper Grilled Cheese
- Burgers
- Chicken strips
- Seasonal holiday food offerings
The portions were generous and it was a great spot to take a break and recharge before heading back out to enjoy the park.
Holiday Drinks for Adults
If you’re visiting with other adults, keep an eye out for seasonal holiday beverages around the park.
During Knott’s Merry Farm, some locations offer festive drinks that can be a fun treat for parents while exploring the holiday atmosphere.

How Much Time You Need at Knott’s Merry Farm
If you’re visiting with kids, you don’t necessarily need to spend the entire day at the park.
For many families, about 4 to 6 hours is the perfect amount of time.
This gives you enough time to:
- Ride several attractions
- Explore Camp Snoopy
- Walk through decorated areas
- Take family photos
- Try some seasonal food
If your children are younger, shorter visits can actually make the experience more enjoyable and less overwhelming.
What to Wear to Knott’s Merry Farm
Even though the event happens during the holiday season, Southern California weather can still be surprisingly warm during the day.
When planning outfits for your visit, it’s best to dress in layers.
Here are a few things to bring:
Comfortable Shoes
Theme parks involve a lot of walking, so comfortable shoes are a must.
A Hat
It can still be sunny during the day, especially earlier in the season.
Layers
Temperatures usually cool down once the sun sets, so bringing a light jacket or sweater is a good idea.
Planning outfits this way helps families stay comfortable throughout the entire visit.
Our Favorite Part of Visiting Knott’s Merry Farm
One of the things that makes Knott’s Merry Farm special is how family-friendly the event feels.
Compared to larger holiday theme park events, the atmosphere often feels a little more relaxed while still being festive.
We loved walking through the decorated areas, enjoying the seasonal food, and letting our daughter explore Camp Snoopy rides.
It’s a great option for families looking to enjoy holiday fun without needing to plan a multi-day theme park trip.
