Finding the best restaurants for families, with kids, while adventuring at Disneyland or Disney California Adventure takes time and effort. Often times when visiting one of the parks we like to step outside to get a change of scenery from the amusement parks. In January, we decided to try Earl of Sandwich, which was recently upgraded to a tavern and now includes table service. A perk for those that are only visiting Downtown Disney is that they validate 5 hours of parking when you choose table-service. Previously, they only provided quick-service meals. This restaurant was a hit for me and my four-year old daughter! The husband was also pleased with the selections offered. Let’s dive right in to the deets!
Location
This restaurant is closest to the DCA or Disney entrance gates. We left DCA a little before noon. We didn’t have to walk too far to walk up and ask to be seated. We loved that they had outdoor seating because it makes for a more flexible environment when you have small children dining with you. The outdoor patio is covered which is perfect regardless of what the weather may be. Another plus to outdoor dining is that it gives kids the opportunity to people-watch and not get as squirmy as they might get when sitting indoors.
Food Selection
As adults, we always get a little excited when there is a good cocktail menu. And let me tell you, this one did not disappoint. This go around, I opted for a Spritz and my husband ordered a beer. We definitely enjoy incorporating little moments like this for the adults that create a date-like experience even if it really is a family outing. As with most Downtown Disney restaurants, the meals and drinks can feel overpriced, but this is one venue where I felt our money was well spent. Again, consider this a little treat for the adults and the kids get to experience it with you too!
One of the things I always recommend is to research the menu beforehand, so that you are prepared with your order once you are seated. We were there for lunch right at 12pm and were seated immediately. But the crowds do grow quickly and having your food order ready for the waiter just speeds things up and leaves more time for enjoying the food while having some quality family time. Here’s a snapshot of waht the menu looked like.
My huband ordered a chicken sandwich which came with fries ($22). He was pleased with the option but didn’t rave about it. I personally tried a bite out of the breaded chicken, and it was delish. As for me, I love a caesar salad and that’s exactly what I ordered. No add on options. The size of the salad was generous and I couldn’t finish it, but I was pleased both with the price and the quality ($18). As for my daughter she loved the mac and cheese! It came with a small order of fries and grapes/melon. The apple juice was more of a cider and tasted fresh. I want to say her meal was under $14. Any time my child is pleased with her meals and finishes it, I’m sold. The bill is worth the price. If you’ve read through any of my other reviews you know I always share the good and bad in hopes of saving you some money (and disappointment)!
Time of Visit
I always like to share when our visit took place, just as a point of reference. I realize there are a lot of folks reading this that are from out of town and it helps with planning. Our visit took place on a Monday in January.
Why We Loved Eating Here
We loved the quick service but honestly, the drink selection and meals were really good and worth the price. The fact that our daughter loved her meal and finished it was a huge plus! Although desserts looked yummy we knew we were heading back into the park so we’d opt for a treat there instead.
All in all, if you’re looking for a lip-smacking drink and a good meal, head to the Earl of Sandwich Tavern. With an atmosphere that’s perfect for anyone from tots to adults, it’s the ultimate family-friendly spot to chow down!
